OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
There are many arguments as to whether applying ‘early decision’ helps, hurts or makes no difference to a student’s chance of being accepted. For a detailed look at this issue please read the uraccepted article discussing it. However, at some colleges there is clearly an admissions preference for students who truly ‘want to be on that campus’. Vanderbilt appears to be just that sort of school! The admissions office seems to prefer students who genuinely want to attend Vandy to those who would like to attend Vandy . . . if they get rejected at Harvard and Yale. The spread between the regular decision acceptance rate and the early decision acceptance rate is 31% to 47%. Even if the competition is a bit more intense among early decision applicants . . . those applicants clearly have an advantage at Vandy. If you honestly think that Vanderbilt is your top choice, uraccepted encourages you to make that clear by applying early decision; the result might just be a little edge for your chances of receiving a note which begins ‘congratulations’!
It’s worth noting that the uraccepted staff constantly reviews hundreds of college websites. They are in unanimous agreement that the official Vanderbilt admissions website http://www.vanderbilt.edu/Admissions/ is the ‘best of the best’ for prospective students or parents interested in learning more about a college. It’s helpful, well organized, content rich, straight forward, and lacks useless or confusing ‘spin’.
