There’s Something Special Happening in South Bend . . .
South Bend, Indiana isn’t exactly New York or Los Angeles. It’s a small, hard working, blue collar community. The terrain is flat and featureless. The weather is cold and bleak during the winter . . . very cold. The nearest big city, Chicago, is a couple of hours away. If you don’t like fishing, you might not find too much to do in the South Bend area. And yet, South Bend is home to one of the world’s great universities, Notre Dame!
At uraccepted, we think that the lack of excitement most students have about going to school in the South Bend area is a wonderful illustration of just how terrific a school many students believe Notre Dame to be. Nearly everyone at Notre Dame is excited about being there. So if you can be excited about Notre Dame . . . in spite of South Bend . . . then there must be something special happening on campus. We agree and think there is.
The Notre Dame “family” is something much bigger and more important than watching football games in the fall. Notre Dame has a long history of educating “individuals” and building character . . . not just offering some good college classes. This is a university which takes its responsibility to educate young people and prepare them for life very seriously. It must be working because Notre Dame was recently cited by Newsweek as one of America’s desirable “New Ivies”! Oh, and watching those famous football games on a brisk fall afternoon isn’t a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
