New York City’s “Hidden Jewel”
Fordham might just be the “hidden jewel” for students looking to attend college in New York City! This excellent university is often overlooked as high school students in love with Manhattan consider Columbia and NYU. In a sense, Fordham suffers from what uraccepted defines as the “Tufts syndrome”. Tufts is a terrific college but is overshadowed because its campus abuts both Harvard and MIT. Considered by itself, Fordham would stand out to most high school seniors considering the “Big Apple” as their college destination. Unfortunately for the Fordham admission’s office, there are a couple of other world class colleges nearby. But, in our opinion, what’s trouble for the Fordham admission’s office is a great opportunity for high school seniors around the country!
Talented students who might not be accepted at Columbia or NYU might just wrangle an acceptance letter from Fordham and few would regret the decision. Going to college in New York means that you’re at the center of it all. There may be no other place on the planet which offers nearby college students such a variety of internships and other opportunities.
Fordham actually features 3 different campuses (including Tarrytown, NY) but the two most popular are in the Bronx and at Lincoln Center. This gives Fordham students a unique position from which to experience and enjoy New York City.
Fordham describes itself as a university “in the Jesuit tradition”. The Jesuit heritage is unmistakable but Fordham is truly an “independent” university. Any talented high school senior considering New York City as a college destination should make sure that they don’t overlook Fordham . . . you can thank all of us at uraccepted later!
