General Weather Description: Some 300 miles north of Miami and 40 miles from the Gulf Coast, Gainesville is a slightly different climate from what most out of state visitors remember about their last Sunshine State vacation. It is generally warm or hot with a coolish period in mid winter. There are no nearby coastal beaches to affect the immediate weather. Like Disney World, Gainesville is located in the middle of the state . . . between the coasts. While the daytime temperature is usually warm and pleasant, the overnight temperature will drop below freezing several nights during the winter months. The winter tends to be quite dry. Summers are hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms.

Other Important Information about the University of Florida:
Most state universities are an outstanding bargain for in state residents but offer ‘at market’ tuition and fees for out of state student. That’s not true at UF! At just over $29,000 for tuition, room, meals, and fees . . . a ‘top 50’ education at UF is a bargain for students across the nation.
Competition for a place at UF is becoming much more challenging. As recently as 2005 the acceptance rate was more than 55%. Now it’s slightly less than 37% and expected to drop further.
As one of the nation’s largest universities, UF takes safety and security very seriously. The campus police force is professional and sophisticated. A leading security organization has ranked UF #2 among thousands of college campuses for the quality of its security effort.
