Dartmouth . . . “Consider yourself one of the family”
Talk to nearly any alumni of Dartmouth and you’ll find someone who loved their college choice. The passion for and involvement with the school shared by both alumni and students is nothing short of remarkable. Hanover is a relatively isolated and rural New Hampshire community. The winters are long, dark, cold and snowy. This means that for several months each year, the Dartmouth community has each other and outdoor winter activities. The ‘Big Green’ nation make the very best of both! The Dartmouth sports program is outstanding . . . especially winter sports. The Dartmouth student body, the smallest in the Ivy League, is a lot like a family. Once you’re a member, you’re never left out and you’re always welcome.
This passion for the school is true for undergraduates and graduates alike. And it’s not speculation, US News & World Report suggests that Dartmouth alumni have the 2nd highest rate of alumni contribution of any American college! It’s not surprising that Dartmouth alumni are able to donate . . . the Wall Street Journal reports that Dartmouth graduates out in the work force for at least a decade have the highest median income of any college it has surveyed.
Winter Carnival at Dartmouth is one of the most famous and spectacular traditions at any college in America. If you have the opportunity to attend . . . don’t miss it!
Today, Dartmouth is a world famous university and a ‘Big Green’ acceptance letter is one of the most coveted in America. Yet, few realize that when it was founded in 1769, Dartmouth’s initial mission was to educate, civilize, and introduce Christianity to the tribes of Native Americans in the surrounding area!
Dartmouth has produced many famous alumni, both real and fictional. Michael Corleone from the “Godfather” movies attended Dartmouth. Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson, famous for engineering the $700 Billion economic rescue bill of 2008 is a Dartmouth alum. But perhaps the most famous of all is Fred Rogers, known around the world simply as “Mr. Rogers”.
