Cleveland Rocks . . . And So Does Case Western!
As the song says, “Cleveland rocks” and the students at Case Western agree. After all, the world famous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is just a 10 minute drive from the Case Western campus!
Today, we know this outstanding university as Case Western Reserve but prior to 1967 it was actually two separate institutions, the Case Institute of Technology which dates back to 1880 and Western Reserve University which was founded back in 1826.
One particularly interesting note about Case Western involves the Nobel Prize. Every great university likes to brag about its Nobel winners and with 15 of them, Case has certainly had its share. However did you know that the very first American scientist to be awarded a Nobel Prize, Dr. Albert Michelson, who won in 1907, was a professor of physics from Case Western? And before that, in 1896, Professor Miller performed the very first full X-ray of the human body. The human body he used for this ground breaking experiment? His own of course! But don’t think that the star alumni from Case were all “back in the day”. Popular website “Craig’s List” founder Craig Newmark earned a BS from Case in 1975
