Conversation #4
The campus of one of America’s great colleges, Northwestern, sits on the shore of Lake Michigan just a few miles north of bustling Chicago, Illinois. The wind off the lake is cold this February morning as two admissions officers stop talking about the Cubs upcoming Spring Training camp and begin to review another application folder . . .
Admissions Officer #1 : Hey, I think I’ve found a super candidate. He lives near our campus right here in suburban Chicago.
Admissions Officer #2 : Yeah, his boards and grades seem okay. But what makes you think he’s so special?
Admissions Officer #1 : Well, I remember this kid. He came to meet me last month when I was visiting New Trier High where he goes to school. Check it out; he was wearing a Duke University sweatshirt! That’s so funny. Here he is applying to Northwestern but he’s wearing a Duke shirt to our meeting. Talk about rad; I thought it was so cool. I’ll bet we’re his first choice!
Admissions Officer #2 : Gotta be! Stamp that one ‘accept’.
