Conversation #3
It’s a cold winter afternoon in Williamsburg, Virginia. Just a short walk from Colonial Williamsburg sits one of the most beautiful college campuses in America; it’s also one of the oldest. Two admissions officers at academic powerhouse William & Mary are discussing an application file . . .
Admissions Officer #1 : Hand me that next file please.
Admissions Officer #2 : Hey, this kid had 163 hours of community service! Wasn’t the minimum required at his high school just 40 hours?
Admissions Officer #1 : Yeah, what a tool! He could have spent all that extra time playing Halo3 or texting his buds.
Admissions Officer #2 : After more than 300 years as a premier college I suppose now we’re supposed to start taking kids who are all focused on studying and sports and community service? As if!
Admissions Officer #2 : I couldn’t agree more. Toss that file over to the “reject” pile for me.
