Boston College . . . Not Just “Boston” Anymore!
A generation ago, Boston College was a good place to attend college if you lived in New England and planned to live in the Boston area after graduation. The school’s academics were reasonable but BC lacked the facilities of a true “national university”. There were so few dorm rooms available that freshmen who lived within a few miles of Boston weren’t allowed to live on campus. The “powers that be” at this Jesuit university decided to develop and reinvent Boston College. And wow . . . what a school emerged from this process!
Boston University raised capital to bolster its endowment, built attractive new dorms, recruited premier faculty, and committed to supporting a top level athletic program. The result is one of America’s outstanding universities. Long gone are the days of BC as a regional school. Today BC is a true national college destination.
Recently Newsweek recognized BC as one of America’s highly desirable “New Ivies”. As the facilities and faculty dramatically improved, so did the talent of the student body. Now, an acceptance letter from BC has become a coveted prize among top students across the country!
